Part of the plant used:flowering tops
Origin:India
Chemotype:estragole
Culture:
Organic farming
Method of extraction:
steam distillation of flowers
Basil was widely used during Antiquity, the Egyptians used it during the mummification process thanks to its antibacterial and preservative properties. Do not confuse common French basil (which is the basil used in cooking) with tropical basil. They have the same name but do not have the same properties.
The yield of tropical basil essential oil is very low. Indeed, it will be necessary to distil 100kg of flowers to obtain 100gr of essential oil.
Due to its composition, tropical basil essential oil will have specific properties. Indeed, it contains a large amount of methylchavicol (estragole) which will give it anti-spasmodic and antibacterial properties. The presence of linalool in this essential oil will also provide anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and calming properties.
