What is an essential oil? :

An essential oil (EO) is the essence extracted from plants. It is a real concentrate of aromatic molecules. The essence is taken from different parts of the plant: leaf, flower, bark, wood,...

An essential oil is only an "oil" in name, because in reality, an EO is not greasy and if you leave the bottle open, it evaporates. It does not mix in water.

How do you get an HE?

There are several ways to get an HE:

  • Distillation: steam that passes through the plant, carrying the aromatic molecules with it. This vapor will then enter a compartment where it is cooled and becomes liquid again. The essential oils separate from the water and remain on the surface. They are then recovered by settling.
  • The expression: strong pressure without heating, especially used for citrus fruits.
  • Solvent extraction: used for perfumery.

What does an EO contain? :

An EO contains a significant amount of aromatic molecules. In general, between 50 and 100 molecules but some can contain up to 300 different ones. These molecules represent the active principles of EO and are classified by category: alcohols, ethers, terpenes, ketones, phenols,... Each category having different properties.

Major properties of EOs:

  • Anti-infective
  • Antiseptic
  • Anti-viral
  • Pain reliever
  • Healing
  • Digestive
  • Immunity regulator
  • Calming

How to use them? :

  • Through the skin (HE goes directly into the bloodstream): in massage, in the bath, in foot bath.

Warning:

⚠️Some EOs are photosensitizing, so do not expose yourself to the sun after use
⚠️Always dilute an EO before applying it to the skin and after testing it on a small part of the skin
⚠️In water, it is necessary to mix it beforehand with a special base for HE

  • In the air: using an HE diffuser, preferably without water.

Warning:

⚠️Some EOs cannot be used in broadcast

  • By mouth: directly on a neutral tablet or on a small piece of sugar.

For whom? :

Essential oils can be used in children, adolescents and adults.

Warning:

⚠️Certain HEs are prohibited for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, people suffering from certain pathologies
⚠️EOs are not safe, so it is best to seek the advice of a professional< /p>
